Togakushi

The Togakushi Shrines sit in an ancient forest 40km from Hakuba. Togakushi consists of 5 Shinto Shrines connected by roads and hiking trails lined with trees all over 800 years old. It’s a stunning example of the fusion of nature and religion within Japanese culture.

Ninja Museum and Ninja House

The Togakushi area is famous for ninja and has held a ninja school from the 12th century. Today at Togakushi there is a museum where you can learn about the history of the ninja and their impact on the history of Japan.

There is also a Ninja House which at first glance looks like an ordinary home. However the Ninja House is a maze where the entrance to the next room is hidden and must be uncovered by visitors. It’s fun for adults and kids and takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Closed from late-November to mid-April

Admission: ¥650

Kids Ninja Village

3km from the Togakushi Forest, this Ninja Village is a small theme park perfect for kids as they can dress up as ninja and try fun ninja activities such as throwing fake throwing stars.
