Iwatake is perhaps Hakuba’s most popular Green Season attraction and features a slew of activities perfect for the whole family. You can easily spend an entire day here. Below are a few of the amazing things you can do:
No trip to Hakuba is complete without a hike in the majestic Japanese Alps. The most popular hike is to Happo Pond on Happo One. Start this trip with the Happo Gondola and two chair lifts where you will then begin hiking. It takes about 90 minutes to reach the pond.
Chitose. This is a small Japanese eatery next to Hakuba Land Station specializing in Katsu curry
In the afternoon rent bikes from our friends at Rhythm Japan and cycle a few km to The Hakuba Land Station for a Starbucks coffee and incredible mountain views. The space was designed by the world famous architect, Kengo Kuma. The Hakuba Patagonia and The North Face shops are both a few minutes away on foot as well.
From there, cycle another 3km to Oide Park and enjoy a the beautiful river and mountain views.
The Clubhouse. Western food with outside seating and plenty of free games for the kids (Pac man, Jenga, and table tennis to name a few).
You may be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Swiss Alps when at Lake Aoki. It is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Japan and perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day. There are various water sports available including:
You can rent equipment at the Lake and even hire an instructor for the morning. Swimming is best between July and early September but you can still enjoy the lake in spring and autumn.
Zebrik Ramen. This is a small ramen shop on the lake with an outdoor deck overlooking the water—great ramen and even better view.
Hakubounce is Nagano Prefecture’s largest indoor trampoline park and the perfect family activity. Located in the Goryu section of Hakuba, Hakubounce features trampolines, an inflatable soccer pitch, mini golf, table tennis and more!
Kikoiya. This is an excellent English friendly izakaya serving great sashimi, sushi, tempura and more.
