The Teiitsu Festival & Hakuba Mountain Range Opening Festival is a historic event marking the official start of the summer hiking season in the Northern Alps. Held at the Sarukura trailhead, the festival offers unique guided trekking tours through the Hakuba Daisekkei, one of Japan’s three largest snow valleys, spanning 2.5km in length. Participants can witness blooming alpine wildflowers, enjoy spring skiing, and receive an exclusive commemorative pin badge limited to the event. For experienced hikers, a specialized two-day traverse of the Hakuba Sanzan peaks is also available. After the descent, hikers are welcomed back with traditional local hospitality, including pork miso soup and fresh mountain vegetable tempura, making it a perfect celebration of Hakuba’s pioneering mountain culture.
